PET RESCUE'S MISSION
Pet Rescue is a non-profit animal rescue organization founded in 1982 by
volunteer workers who met at a "no-kill" animal shelter. Dismayed at the
terrible living conditions of the animals there, they left to establish a
rescue group to properly care for cats and dogs in need, and find them safe
and loving homes.
Pet Rescue is not a formal shelter. It is a small group of volunteers that
fosters dogs and cats until they are adopted. Some animals are fostered by
group members and outside volunteers, while other animals are housed at
local boarding facilities. The animals come from various places. Some come
from owners who are no longer able to care for them. Others are taken from
local shelters, yet still others (many others) come from the streets. Those
rescued from the streets often arrive sick or injured, and are subsequently
treated by veterinarians. We have great success finding homes for puppies
and kittens as well as older animals and those with special needs (such as
blind and handicapped cats and dogs).
We do not euthanize healthy or older animals. We will only give up on the
life of an animal when it is terminally ill and in distress.
TO ADOPT FROM PET RESCUE
We are particular about finding the right match between people and pets. If
we do not have the right kind of cat or dog for you, we may refer you to
another shelter or rescue group. All of our cats are tested for feline
leukemia and A.I.D.S. before they are released for adoption. They also
receive vaccinations, and if mature, are spayed or neutered.
Select dogs or cats for a
current list of available animals for adoption.
We will ask for a minimum donation when an animal is adopted. The amount of
the donation is not an exchange for value received, but is truly a donation
to help us carry on our work.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
We need volunteers to assist in a myriad of activities such as helping at
adoption events, fostering homeless dogs and cats, cleaning cages and
fundraising. Please consider donating some of your time to saving these
wonderful animals.
We also need donations to support our work. Unlike many shelters, we
receive no public funds.
